Wooden Embroidery Table Clamp 19th CenturyEntry/Object ID
2025.79.1Description
A late 19th century wooden table clamp with detachable embroidery hoop. Used with the hoop, the clamp would be secured to the edge of a table and the hoop rotated to face away from the table. At that point the fabric would be inserted between the two hoops as normal and could be worked on without the person needing to hold the hoop itself. Without the hoop the clamp might be used to secure large pieces of fabric onto a table while marking, cutting, or sewing. The additional flat pieces of wood could have been used to diffuse the pressure of the clamp on the fabric, meaning less chance of damage or imprints.Collection
