World War II Cadet Nurse Patches and Lieutenant BarEntry/Object ID
2025.100.3Description
Two oval patches, one grey and one beige, both with red detailing. These patches would have been worn by a Cadet Nurse during World War II. There is also a small rectangular silver pin with no backing. Also included is a length of purple and gold ribbon.
The US Cadet Nurse Corps was established in 1943 to alleviate a shortage of nurses which began even before the war. It was open to woman aged 17-35 who graduated high school. It put them through an accelerated program to earn their nursing degree while working for the army.
The bar pin signifies a rank of first lieutenant when worn by an army officer.
