The recent landscaping in the foreground, on the opposite side of the Willimantic River, indicates that Mill No. 4 had just been built; Mill No. 4 was built in 1880. The photo is captioned, and so appears to have been copied from a publication. The captions read "Rear View, Willimantic Company's Mill No. 2, Willimantic, Conn.," "Forbes Albertype," and "Boston." The Forbes Albertype Co. was located in Boston, MA, and flourished between 1856 and 1901, specializing in both albertype photographic prints and lithographs, in the form of art prints, maps, guidebooks, and trade cards. This photographic print is probably from c. 1881, a peak year for the Forbes Company.
