2023.27.1Description
Green silk dress with built-in corset. The donor writes: "My mother's family worked in the textile mills in the area there. She recently passed away, and these were found among her belongings. The dress belonged to her mother or grandmother. My home base is Hawaii and I know this will be destroyed by the climate there. I enjoyed your online presentations and images, and I hope that these items can be part of the collection there for women who worked in the mills. My great Aunt Katherine died from what the museum calls, 'brown lung'. She was only 16. I have a photo of her I treasure -- she is standing with a group of women in the mill -- maybe around looms? I know my grandmother ('Babcia' in Polish) was a loom worker." A prayer book (2023.27.2) arrived in the same shipment.Collection
