Foreign students to meet in Snow Hill for get-together Joanne D. Mason, American Field Service Representive, announces that July 3 is the arrival date of about forty AFS foreign students at Snow Hill. These students are from all over the world and have already completed a year of high school in the U.S. Just prior to their departure for home these students are given a two week break in which to prepare themselves for their return home and reunion with their native families. The students, three thousand or so nationwide, are placed on chartered buses and routed toward their final point of departure. Three stops are scheduled during the two weeks at towns that will host them and plan some activities for their enjoyment. This is a critical time for the students as they have just said good-bye to their American families, and are facing the cultural shock of returning to their home after 11 months here in the states. Families in the Snow Hill area furnish these students with food and lodging for the four days they are here as well as a family atmosphers. Planned activities during the day time hours and family togetherness in the evening help to ease the pain of leaving as some of the students will never see their American families again. Activities planned for the students include picnics, local tours to points of interest, outings at the beach and local parks and boat cruises. The Snow Hill Chapter of the AFS is looking for families who would. like to share in this warm experience of hosting a student for these four days. The students will be leaving the area early morning of the 7th. Anyone interested is invited to call Richard & Vera Bolen at (301) 632-0230.
