February 5, 1976 Worcester County Messenger Seeking Family For Exchange Student The Snow Hill AFS Chapter is searching for a host family for 1976-77. Since 1960 foreign students from all parts of the world have been coming to Snow Hill to live with families in the area and to attend Snow Hill High School and once again local families interested in hosting are asked to contact a chapter member. In the past, families applied and months later a student's papers were sent from AFS International in New York, but this year prospective hosts will see the student's papers first and decide after reading the application if this is a student with whom they wish to share their home! This "reverse placement" has met with success in other parts of the country where it has been tried. Taking an AFS student into your home for a year is an adventure in human relationships. It is appropriate to have some doubts. If a potential family lacks adequate information about hosting an AFS student, they may decide against the experience at this point. The fact is that most AFS experiences work out well. Mrs. Sidney Cropper, chapter president, will gladly answer any questions you may have. Past host families in the community would welcome inquiries as to the type of adjustments and benefits they encountered. Each AFS year is unique, however, because the people involved differ infinitely. Each family daring enough to take on the AFS challenge represents one more opportunity for a student overseas to realize a dream and participate in a cross-cultural experience in human understanding.
