SHHS Cleanup
Saturday morning, May 18th found the members of S.H.H.S. Student Council in an unusual situation. By noon they had become experienced trash collectors. Their goal was to instill in the minds of all SHHS students the idea of "Keeping America Beautiful".
This project began at SHHS through information coming from the National and Maryland Associations of Student Councils. To initiate the program and to involve direct participation of students, the Council sponsored a bulletin board campaign.
Various art classes constructed bulletin board displays dealing with different aspects of the tremendous problem that
plagues society--littering. The winning bulletin board received a cash prize of ten dollars. It may be noted that all participants put forth a fine effort. The concluding activity of the Keep America Beautiful Project was the picking up of trash in which the members of the Council participated. In less than 3/4 of a mile they accumulated two pick- up loads of litter.
