May 9, 1963
Worcester County Council of Homemakers met in the County Service Building on May 9, 1963.
Meeting called to order by the president, Mrs. Howard Pruitt.
Homemaker's Creed by the group.
Minutes of last meeting read and approved.
Roll call answered by 9 presidents and 11 chairmen. 17 persons were present as several served in both capacities.
Mrs. Pruitt thanked all who helped in any way for the meeting at Ocean City. She also told of the nice compliments heard about the meeting, being the nicest one attended by visitors.
Treasurer reported a bal. (balance) of $518.12.
A thank-you note was read from Bishopville 4H club.
Mrs. Cody, president of the Spence club presented a box of useful articles for the Service Kitchen.
A motion by Mrs. Thomas, with a second by all present that Miss Nofflet be re-imbursed for the personal check she gave to Commodore Brown.
That the council pay all expenses was a motion by Mrs. Shay, second to motion by all present.
Mrs. Shay also stated she thought Mrs. Cubler should be given money for Publicity purposes. Decided to give $3.00 by the group.
Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. DeVaux and Mrs. Cody were appointed a Nominating Committee for Vice President and Secretary, to report at next meeting.
President, Treasurer and District Chairman are needed for the State Offices. We could suggest names for President and Treasurer but the Chairman should come from Dorchester Co.
Scrap Books on Switzerland to be in by May 21st.
May 21st would be County International day, this to be Open House and all day. Each club to provide 4 dozen cookies and several hostesses for the tea table, display and morning and afternoon films.
Lampshade work shop planning meeting May 15 at 1:30 pm.
Work meeting May 27-28 all day.
Short Course notice would be sent to each member.
County Picnic on Aug 15th
Milbourne Landing, suggested by Mrs. Campbell. Agreed by group.
Mrs. Campbell to make reservation for Pavilion No 1.
Mrs. Mabel Hudson appointed for recreation chairman.
237 ate Ocean City Banquet.
That Thank-You notes be sent to Mrs. Vincent and Mrs. Cody was a motion by Mrs. Shay, second by Mrs. Wetsell.
Mrs. Lockfaw gave an interesting report of the meeting she attended in Baltimore on April 23rd with Miss Nofflet on weights, etc.
It was announced at this meeting that our Mrs. Mabel Hudson would tell about her trip to Holy Land at Whatcoat Church on May 19th at 8pm.

May 14, 1964
The May meeting of the Worcester County Council of Homemakers met May 14, at 1:30 P.M. Meeting was called to order by the President Mrs. Howard Pruitt, with the reading of the Collect.
Secretary’s report read and accepted. Treasurer’s report read and filed for auditing. Treasurer’s report showed a balance of $296.84.
Roll call showed eleven members present with Mr. Roy Porter representing the Extension Service.
Mrs. Pruitt thanked everyone for their help in making the Tri-County meeting a success. Letters were read from Mrs. Blankner, State President and Mrs. Otis Hastings, District Director, expressing their pleasure at such a good meeting.
There was a discussion on Farm City week. Mr. Porter stated, the idea of inviting Homemakers from Baltimore to our county was an excellent one. Suggestions were made for their entertainment. It was thought the day of our Annual Picnic would be a good time for their visit.
Dues had been collected from the Yo-Ho Club. This was an error, since their by-laws had not been presented. This money was to be refunded.
An invitation was presented to an Open House on May 26th, one to three thirty, at the Eastern Shore State Hospital.
The meeting for Home Demonstration week was stressed. The meeting to be held at friendship, will be a luncheon with an afternoon meeting.
Short Course was also stressed. It was hoped we would have a larger attendance than last year.
Mrs. Ralph Shockley, Chairman of Nominating Committee presented the following names-

This report is to be presented to the local clubs and election to be held in September.
Another World’s Fair Trip is planned for week of October 5.
Other dates announced were-
The Annual Picnic August 20.
Mr. Carl Johnson, Landscape Specialist from U of Md. To be in the County May 26.
Training meeting for Food Chairmen on May 28.
Mr. Porter announced they are looking for a Home Economist for our county and it is hoped the position will soon be filled.
Mrs. Shockley presented information on International Relations, she had received at the State Meeting. Peace was the item most stressed, other things of importance were, Voice of America, Lady Aberdeen Scholarships and Pennies for Friendship. She also mentioned the Peace Garden – North Dakota & Manitoba, this being the only Peace Garden in the world. Each club was asked to carry on some type of International Relations and report to her.
Mr. Porter announced that a farm boy from Ireland is expected to arrive the last of June and will be staying with Mr. And Mrs. George Jackson, Newark.
Mrs. Pruitt gave a report on the three day State Meeting. These reports are always interesting and mean much to those able to attend.
Mrs. Pruitt also mentioned a future Leaders Training meeting in our County.

Sept. 3, 1964
The meeting was called to order by the President with the reading of the Homemakers Creed.
Mrs. Rose Canny was introduced to the Council, and was very welcome. She will assume duties recently held by Miss Juanita Nofflett, who has taken over the 4H Program.
Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
The treasurer reported $225.22. This report was filed for auditing.
Mrs. Marshall reported on the Nominating Committee with the following slate– President, Mrs. Howard Pruitt, Treasurer, Mrs. George Clayville.
Roll call showed seventeen members present.
Other reports discussed were Cultural and Community Development.
By-laws were received from the Yo-Ho Club. It was moved and seconded they be accepted. The Secretary was asked to write the club, notifying them of this action.
Mrs. Pruitt presented bill for $8.24 for present for Miss Oliver, State Leader who resigned to accept position with the Government.
Letters were read the Baltimore Extension Agent Home Economics, Baltimore City, thanking us for such a nice day at our Picnic.
Fall State Meeting to be held Nov. 12 and 13 at U. of Md., in the new Adult Education Center.
Date for the County Fall Meeting announced for Oct. 8. Mrs. Blank and Mrs. Shay to make plans the same.
It was noted the Christmas Idea Workshop be discontinued and a workshop on Christmas Candles be substituted.
Mrs. Pruitt said a Civil Defense Course was available if there was enough interest.
The Worlds Fair Trip for Oct 14 –15 – 16 was discussed. More persons were needed for the trip.
A weight control school of the air was also announced.
Date for program planning meeting for next year was set for Oct. 29 at 1:30 P.M.
It was suggested upholstery school or one for braiding rugs be made available.
No further business the meeting adjourned.

The Worcester County Council of Homemakers met for their regular meeting on Jan. 9, 1964.
The meeting was called to order by the President, Mrs. Howard Pruitt, with the reading of the Homemaker's Creed.
Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer's report read and filed for auditing. The treasurer reported a balance of $80.20.
Roll call of members showed fourteen present. Miss Nofflett was also present.
The treasurer, Mrs. Jones, announced County dues were to be paid by Feb. 1. She also asked that Pennies for Friendship be sent at the same time.
Mrs. Thomas asked for clarification of Article IV Section II concerning the duties of a nominating committee. This was discussed but no definite action taken.
Mrs. Shockley, International Relations Chairman suggested that each club present some ideas of what they would like to study this year.
The Secretary was asked to write a note to Mrs. Ben Stagg, president of the newly formed Junior Homemakers Club. This to express our pleasure at the formation of said club and to hope they will be able to participate in the activities of the County Council.
Mrs. Pruitt asked that everyone start talking Short Course in order that we have a good attendance in '64.
Mrs. Pruitt also said the name of the National Organization is now National Extension Homemakers Council. The meeting this year to be held in Hawaii.
Mrs. Cubler, Publicity Chairman, said our State Publicity Ch. had suggested a Publicity ch. he appointed (crossed out "in each club") to promote our Homemakers magazines. Mrs. Wetsell, appointed to serve in this capacity.
The date for farm city tours was announced for Oct. 12. While the date for Farm & City week is Nov. 21-27.
A motion was made by Mrs. Thomas and seconded by Mrs. Blank that a club be invited to visit our county in Sept. Motion Carried. This motion was tabled by the president.
Mrs. Blank made a motion, that the previous motion be discussed in the individual clubs and be reported back at next council meeting. This was seconded by Mrs. Lockfaw. Motion carried.
Miss Nofflett told of plans for a trip to the World's Fair. It was asked that this also be discussed in the clubs and reported on at the March meeting.
Mrs. Pruitt reported on her trip to the State Council Meeting held at Howard County fairgrounds at West Friendship on Nov 6&7, 1963. She also mentioned her trip to the National Meeting in Little Rock, Ark. A report on this meeting to be given at a
later date.
State Council of Homemakers Spring Meeting will be held at Chevy Chase at the 4H Center on April 14, 15 &16.

Sept. 9, 1965
The Worcester County Council of Homemakers met in the Service Bldg. They were guests of Mrs. Canny at a very delightful luncheon. New dishes and tableware were inspected and admired.
At 1:30 pm the meeting was called to order by the President Mrs. Pruitt. The devotional was presented by Mrs. Ralph Shockley by the use of prayer and the 34th Psalm.
Mrs. Cubler volunteered for Jan. devotional.
Secretary's report read and accepted.
Treasurer's report showed a balance of [$332.88 crossed out] $332.88. This was filed for auditing. She also reported $29.21 had been turned in for Pennies for Friendship from our county.
Roll call showed 20 members present - one visitor and our agent Mrs. Canny.
Under old business was the election. Nominees as presented by nominating committee were Mrs. Cecil Wetsell, Vice president and Mrs. Nelson Lewis secretary. Mrs. Preston Marshall nominated from the floor. Mrs. Richard Jones for Vice-President. A vote by ballot for this office was close but Mrs. Wetsell was the nominee, the Vice President and Secretary were elected to take office at the Jan. meeting but will be installed at the fall meeting.
Mrs. Canny suggested in the future each club send in names and qualifications to the nominating committee of any persons in their club that would serve in the offices to be filled.
Suggestions for the fall meeting were given and tentative date set for Oct. 27. Mrs. Clifton Shay and Mrs. Cecil Wetsell are the planning chairmen.
Mrs. Canny reported on the green stamps given for table ware and that a few more were needed to obtain quantity wanted.
The annual picnic was discussed. No decision reached, but would be brought up at a later meeting.
As always the necessity of full reports was stressed.
Mrs. Canny talked on a cooperative market, she and Miss Nofflet were to visit such a market at Bethesda and report on prospect for such a market in our county.
Mrs. Canny spoke on Operation Outreach and gave lists of things she could use as well as things anyone could do. She stressed the Laubach method and hoped our council could sponsor a teacher for such a course. Motion made by Mrs. Hudson to sponsor a teacher for the Laubach method. Motion seconded and carried.
Mrs. Marshall reported on plans for the World's Fair trip in Oct. Names to be sent in by Sept. 20.
Farm City week was mentioned. Mrs. Canny suggested she find out about a trip and let the club presidents know.
It was suggested that each council member bring a dish towel to the next meeting for our kitchen.

Worcester County Council of Homemakers Report - 1964-1965
Worcester County Homemakers have had a very busy and educational year.
We have 13 Clubs and about 270 members.
Our topics for study the past year were the following:
1. Pocketbook Politics
2. Time Management for Family Recreation
3. Table setting
4. Party ideas for Home entertaining
5. The Well-groomed Woman
6. Club Etiquette
7. Co-ordination of Color in Home Furnishings
8. First Aid in the Home
9. Communism
Special interest classes have been in Rug making - Chair caning - Hat making - Leadership Training Workshop with Mrs. Joyce Hawkins assisting with the program - Knitting workshop (45 members participated and 36 articles were completed) - Christmas Candle making - An Extension Forester gave a lesson on holly.
To promote Rural Women's Short Course we held a luncheon and afternoon meeting. Twelve members attended Short Course.
Although no formal International Relations Program was planned, each Club selected countries of their choice for study and discussion.
We have promoted "Pennies for Friendship" and made contribution to same.
We have sponsored two trips - one to the Azalea Gardens in Norfolk and one to the World's Fair in New York.
Some clubs have had book reports.
In the spring we were Co-hostess with Wicomico and Somerset Counties for our Annual Tri-County meeting.
We heard a speaker on the "Part Maryland Women had in the founding of our State.
In the Fall we had a County-wide meeting. On the program we were entertained by a 4-H group and saw movies of Russia that were taken by Mr. Willis Hudson who had been on the People to People tour of that country.
Home Demonstration Month was designated as "Clean Up Month".
At Christmas we gave donations of gifts and money to our Easter Shore State Hospital.
Also at Christmas our Homemakers were invited to "Open House" at the home of our Home Economist, Mrs. Rose Canny and family - a very festive occasion.
Operation Outreach:
Homemakers collected and contributed scrap materials for our agent's use with low-income families. Several homemakers gave the agent names of homemakers who were not members of Clubs.
We also have given kits of Extension bulletins to New Brides, New Mothers and Newcomers to the county.
Green Stamp Project:
Homemakers have contributed 8 books of Green stamps to purchase stainless steel flatware for the Demonstration Kitchen - service for 24.
I have presided at all County Council meetings, attended the R.W.3.C. planning meeting in Dorchester County, attended the State Handbook Workshop with two officers from our County, held in Wicomico County, the State Council meetings, and the Somerset County Fall meeting with our Agent.
I am serving on the Community Action Program Committee and have attended several meetings.
I thank everyone for their help and co-operation.

Jan. 13, 1966
Worcester County Council first meeting of 1966 was held in the County Service Building Jan. 13, 1966, at 1:30 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by the Pres. Mrs. Howard S. Pruitt who gave us New Year’a Greetings.
Mrs. Edward Cutler gave the devotions, reading from Proverbs and showing how belief in Prayer can have results beyond our imagination. Roll Call by the President with eleven club Presidents present.
Secretary report [crossed out- report] minutes read accepted. Treasurer’s report read. Balance of $225.95 filed for auditing.
Mrs. Canny reported no success so far inth the Lawbeck method. Will try again later. Also the Co-operative Market looked into and doesn’t seem practical. Probably a individual Roadside Market may be better for some. Comments welcome.
President stressed that dues be in by Feb, 1st and Friendship Pennies at same time. Two magazines were shown, The Country Woman and National Notes. Urge that Club Presidents’ have at least one of these publications. Mrs. Cecil Wetsell will take care of the Subscriptions. Club Presidents were urged to send to Office all project chairman early.
Mrs. Cutler asked that reports please be sent in by every club for paper.
President rad 14 things that could be done to make Farm-City wk. a success, Decide on some one thing to do ^at later meeting.
Spring State Meeting will be held at College Park March 29, 30, 31st. The 31st will be for County Project Chairman & Club Chairman. Keep date in mind. Going by chartered bus discussed for the 31st. No decision to date. May is National Home Demonstration Month. National Convention will be held at Fort Collins, Col. Aug. 14-17, 1966.
Md. State Council was Nov. 11 and 12th at College Park. Pres. Attended and the highlights of the Council meeting was given by our Pres. Mrs. Pruitt. Pres. passed copies of her report to those present. Mrs. Canny stressed importance of the Club to take some part in the Great Decisions 1966 offered by the Foreign Policy Association. Decide to purchase 1 kit of Great Decisions- 1966 for Mrs. Lucy Pilchard, who is International Relations Chairman. If interest shown will decide what to do later.
There will be a small electrical appliance repair shop held Jan. 27th.
Mrs. Canny mentioned the National [crossed out word- deciphered] Chicken Cooking Contest for anyone interested.
Please send in ideas for the Spring Homemaker meeting in May. Also, does anyone know where she could get any old treadle sewing machines.
Mrs. Canny also would like any Homemaker Club to adopt a 4H club. To help with 4H members at meetings. Do anything.
She thanked those present for the dish cloths.
Mrs. Pruitt asked for a volunteer for devotions for March meeting. Mrs. Francis Leake accepted graciously.
The meeting was adjourned by the President to meet March, 10th, 1966

March, 10th 1966
The Worcester County Council of Homemakers met in the County Service Building March, 10, 1966 at 1:30 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by the Pres. Mrs. Howard Pruitt, Homemaker Creed was read and followed by Lord’s Prayer in the absence of Mrs. Frances Leake who had the devotions.
Seven Club Presidents answered to the roll call and ten county Project Chairmen were present.
Minutes were read of last meeting and approved.
Treasurer’s report given and accepted. Reported a balance in Treasury of $544.55.
A moment of silence was held for Mrs. Eda Parsons who was Pres. Of Friendship Club. Mrs. Edna Jarmon will fill the remainder of Mrs. Parsons term in office.
An invitation from Baltimore City Club to visit there Oct. 25th was read and accepted.
Mar. 31st a bus will take Project Chairmen & others from Salisbury to College Park for Leadership Workshop. Bus fare and registration fees to be paid by County Council was made into a motion, seconded and so carried.
Mrs. Robert Holland, Mrs. Preston Marshall and Mrs. Fred Cherrix were elected for Nominating Committee for County Pres and Treasurer for next year.
Moved and seconded Worcester County Homemakers take a tour of Dover Air Base and General Foods buildings May 12th as a Spring Event.
At Short Course this year Worcester County will have a part in a pageant.
Keep in mind about County Picnic for discussion at next Council meeting.
Moved and seconded Worcester County co-operate with Somerset and Wicomico Counties in a “Fashion Show of Home Decor” to be held at Civic Center, Salisbury in October.
Reminded the Tri-County Meeting will be held April 21st at Maryland State College, Princess Anne. Beginning at 10:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Fabric and Fashion Show main entertainment.
Adjourned to meet in May the 19th.

May, 19th, 1966
Worcester County Council of Homemakers met in the County Council Service Bldg. May, 19th, 1966. Meeting called to order by President Mrs. Howard Pruitt.
Mrs. Frances Leake gave the devotions. Reading from the Bible. John chap. 1:1-19 verses and chap. 8: the 12th verse. Her topic was “The Light of the World ending with the Lord’s Prayer in unison.
Sec. report read and approved.
Treasurer’s “ “ “ accepted. Bal. on hand $444.05.
Four club presidents answered at the roll call.
Five project Chairmen present and a glowing report by Mrs. Garland Bull, chairman of Community Development ^who was absent, was read by Mrs. Rose Canny. Mrs. Bull suggested each family in Worcester County plant one dogwood tree and a $25.00 U. S. Savings Bond be given to the winning slogan for this project. The project was adopted by the County Council by a unanimous vote.
We were asked by the Four-H Chairman, Mrs. Dwight Campbell, that we ^ACA Homemaker visit at least one Four-H club over a year.
The International Relations chairman, Mrs. Dittmeyer, suggested we study India in our club this coming year.
The The Short Course chairman, Mrs. Lewis, urged a good attendance at Short Course this year.
The nominating committee sent in the name of Mrs. Preston Marshall for President ad Mrs. George Clayville for [crossed out] Treasurer for the coming term. Moved and seconded we accept the report of committee.
Discussed the picnic for August and it was noted and accepted it would be at Melbourne’s Landing August 18th, and to eat at 6:00 P.M.
We were reminded by President of the Fall Meeting to be held Oct. 18th and the Farm City Tour or Baltimore Oct. 25th.
It was moved and seconded we send two representatives of Wor. Co. Homemakers to go before the County Commissioners and ask that they write our Congressman concerning the cut in money allowed for Extension work which Pres. Johnson proposes. That just now we need no cut as the Extension work includes the Poverty program and our Agent doing the extra work.
President closed the meeting by the reading, in unison, of the Homemaker Creed.
Adjourned to meet Sept. 8th. 1966.

Worcester County Council of Homemakers met the the County Council Bldg. Sept. 8th.
Meeting calls to order by Pres. Mrs. Howard Pruitt.
Mrs. Henry Onley gave the devotions. Her Bible reading was from St. Mark, 10th Chapt. the 35th-45th verses. She ended by the reading of a beautiful prayer.
Sec. report read and approved.
Treasurer absent so no report.
Roll call found 12 county project Chairmen present and seven Club Presidents.
International Chairman reported on a film of India to be shown later in the year when available.
Election of offices proceeded. Mrs Otis Northam moved we accept the names brought in by Committee at last meeting. Mrs. Dittmar seconded the motion. No other names offered from floor. Mrs. Preston Marshall for President and Mrs. George Clayville ^Treasurer unanimously voted in for the coming two years.
Under new business Mrs. Pruitt presented the names off Mrs. Frederick Huber for Maryland State President and Mrs, William Simpson for State Treasurer. Moved and seconded we give Mrs. Pruitt our vote for the two above mentioned for the incoming Officers for State President and State Treasurer.
Mrs. Mathias from Somerset County visited us and informed us of the coming Fabric Show to be held at the civic Center, Salisbury, Oct. 25th. Two performances. At 2:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. It is Tri-County and the proceeds to be used to build a 4H and Youth Center in Wor. Co. The land already been given for the building. Prize for best outfits made from drapery fabric to be given.
Incoming officers welcomed by outgoing Pres. Mrs. Pruitt.
Farm-City Tour at Baltimore will be Oct 25th. Moved and seconded our new Pres. Mrs. Marshall be sent to the State Meeting as our Representation in the Fall.
Fall Meeting- County wide will be changed from Oct 18th to Nov. 17th.
Xmas Workshop will be held Oct 27th
Defensive Driving ^course given for Homemakers and Public later in year.
Mrs. Canny asked we send in names of physical or Mental Handicap person which we will help.
We adjourned with a film on Maryland Constitution by Mrs. Canny.

Worcester County Council Homemakers Club met January 12th at the County Extension Bldg. at 1:30 P.M.
This was first meeting of 1967-68. Mrs. Preston Marshall is the new President and Ms. Virginia Clayville is Treasurer.
The meeting was called to order by President Mrs. Preston Marshall.
A prayer by William Sloane Coffin Jr. Chaplain of Yale University was read by Mrs. Walter Blank.
Secretary’s minutes of last meeting read and approved.
Treasurer’s report was given and accepted. Bal. on hand $326.57
Treasurer reminded us County Council Dues should be sent in by Feb.1st Pennies for Friendship at any time until May.
The Tri-County meeting discussed was Wor. County is Hostess this year.
Pres. Mrs. Marshall appointed Mrs. Cecil Wetsell, Mrs. Robert Dittmar, Mrs. Grace Cubler, and Mrs. Robert Wimbrow to meet with her to make arrangements for this meeting which will be held at Civic Center, Salisbury March 16th.
Jan. 31st is last date for entries to the Chicken Cooking Contest for this year’s Delmarva Chicken Festival to be held at Dover, Del. June 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. You may obtain blanks (???) from your local Club or Mrs. Rose Canny, your Extension Agent.
Rural Womens Short Course at College Park will be from June 12th to 16th. Moved a seconded we consider organizing a bus trip one or two days for those women who cannot attend Short Course for entire wk. urge President of Local Club to appoint a Short Course Chairman.
Moved and seconded we send 25 (cents symbol) per minute to the Associated Country Women 4th (???) World which meets in Lansing, Michigan this year time 1968. This meets once in 3 yrs. The money for this to paid from County Treasury.
Monthly meetings of local Clubs will be done on a basic of, 3 months with help of Extension Agent and 7 months the Club will arrange its own demonstrations. March, May and October will be the months for Extension demonstrations. Mrs. Canny reported that the Extension heads feel there are women outside of the Club members who really need the help of our agent more than we who are the more fortunate ones. We all agree that was true.
There was 13 present at the Roll Call. Moved and seconded that we adjourn to meet in March.

“Plant dogwood today – Enjoy in May” was the winning entry in slogan for planting dogwood contest for Worcester County. Holly McCake (???), a student at Stephen Decatur High School was the winner. Mr. Ray Redden, Co. Commissioner made the presentation. Francis Gavin, Specialist in Ornamental Horticulture of Maryland University, gave a lecture demonstration on the planting and care of dogwood on the lawn of the Worcester County Courthouse Thursday. Two trees were planted. The program is sponsored by the Worcester County of Homemakers under the leadership of Mrs. Garland D. Bull (???)

The Worcester County Council of Homemakers Club met March 9th 1967 at the County Extension Bldg. at 1:30P.M.
Meeting opened by the President, Mrs. Preston Marshall.
Devotions were given by Mrs. Otis Northam, using Proverbs, a reading by Grace Novrell (???) Crowell (???) and ending by a prayer.
A correction of year for Meeting of Associated Country Women to read 1968 instead of 1967 made by the President Mrs. Marshall.
Secretary minutes of last meeting read and approved after above correction.
Treasurer’s report given and accepted. Bal. on hand $509.17. (527.40)
The budget was given for the next two years, 1967-1968. Total $430.00. A copy is hereby attached.
Mrs. Canny asked for help to complete decorations for Tri- County Meeting at Civic Center Nov. 16th.
Voted to have corsages for the two women guests at this meeting.
A book “Rivers of the Eastern Shore” shown. It is a gift from Worcester Co. Council of Homemakers to Miss Loar, Asst. State Leader, who is now retiring.
The Health and Safety Co. Chairman, Mrs. Jarrell Legg has set up two course for Defensive driving for Co. Homemakers and anyone who is interested. They will be held in Berlin April 7, 14, 21, 28 – 7:30 – 9:30 P.M. & Snow Hill April 5, 12, 19, 26 – 1:00 – 3:00P.M.
Short Course Chairman, Mrs. Howard Pruitt gave us the changes and other related facts of this year at College Park. One change is the cost. This year will be $35.00.
At roll call there were 4 Club Presidents, 4 Co. Chairmen and officers and members of Clubs present making a total of 14 present.
The Association for Retarded Children of Worcester Co., Maryland will be organized Nov. 29 in Room 108 at the Snow Hill High School. All urged to attend and take part in any way needed.
No old business so moved & seconded we adjourn to meet again May 11th, 1967.

Worcester County Council of Homemakers Club met May, 11th, 1967, 1:30 P.M. at the Co. Ext. Building.
Our President being ill the meeting was opened by Vice Pres. Mrs. Cecil Wetsell.
Devotions by Mrs. Virginia Cropper. She read the 11th Chap. of St. John, verse 1 – 13th.
Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
Treasurer’s report of $502.91 on hand to date accepted.
Roll called and 7 club Presidents, 4 Co. Chairman and Council Officers present.
Mrs. Jarrell Legg gave her report on the Bicycle Safety driving at schools now being worked out. A film shown was a success. The Defensive Driving Course was also a success from the glowing reports of those who took the complete course.
Mrs. Howard Pruitt gave a report on the changes to be made at College week for Women to be held at U. of Md. June 12 – 16th. She asked it be stressed that all clubs try for new members.
Mrs. Rose Canny is taking a group of retarded children on a picnic and wanted donations for the eats. Response was quick.
The County Picnic was discussed. Decided to hold it at Milburn’s Landing August 17th. at 6:30 P.M. To be as usuall a family affair and covered dish picnic.
V.Pres. called for Homemaker’s Creed to be read in unison.
Adjourned to meet Sept. 13th, 1:30 P.M. 1967

Sept. 7th 1967
Worcester County Council of Homemaker’s Club met Sept. 7th, 1:30 P.M. at County Extension Building.
In the absence of the President and Vice-President the Secretary Mrs. Elodie Lewis opened the meeting with a prayer for Mrs. Oneita Eckersley and a minute of Silence for Mrs. Otis Northam, deceased, since we last met.
Secretary read the minutes of last meeting read and approved.
Treasurer’s report given and accepted. Bal. on hand after disbursements $440.32.
Mrs. Mary Grant was asked to fill out the unexpired term of Mrs. Northam. She gracefully accepted.
At this time our President, Mrs. Marshall came in and presided for the rest of the meeting. We were all pleased at her recovery from her recent illness.
We were asked to be sure and attend the Workshop on Fabrics at Bates Church Sept. 19th, and 20th. from 10:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M.
There will be a Christmas Workshop hosted by the D. P. & L. Co. at Salisbury Offices, Oct the 17th and 18th.
Worcester County Fall Meeting will be held at Snow Hill, Oct. 25th. The Program Committee will make all plans and inform each Club President later.
Moved and seconded and voted we accept all changes in State By Laws. Pres. So vote at meeting for same.
Thank you notes were read, by all present, from pupils from Little Red School House for such a lovely time on the trip they had to summer to Ocean City and their lunch.
Mrs. Marshall asked all Club Presidents to please send in things done the past year, not later than Sept. 22nd
Those who attended County picnic in August reported a good time. The attendance was small, so much so, that will discuss later in year what to do about future picnics.
Be sure to tune in at 6:00 P.M., every Tuesday, on WBOCTV, for Extension Agents talks to Homemakers and everyone.
Three County Chairman and four Club Presidents were present.
We were asked to help fill ditty-bags for service-men for Christmas.
Voted we adjourn, with the reading on unison of the Homemakers Creed, to meet again in Jan. 1968.

Meeting opened by President, Mrs. P. Marshall. Program given by Mrs. Dittman. The Homemaker’s Creed said in unison followed by Lord’s Prayer, A Minute of Silence to the memory of Mrs. Oneita Eckersley. Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.

Treasurer’s report of $397.32 bal. on hand, filed for auditing.
Mrs. Blank reported on nominations for Vice-Pres. And Secretary for coming two years. Mrs. Virginia Gordy for Vice Pres. And unable to give any name for Secretary. Mrs. Elodie Lewis was nominated and voted in the Office of Sec. from the floor.
Mrs. Canny, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Blank reported a very interesting meeting of State Fall Meeting in November. All Counties have projects but Worcester only County with Tree Planting, St. Mary’s County invited Worcester to visit them in the Spring for their Garden Tour Week.
Mrs. Canny asked for suggestions from club for Spring Tours. Also that County dues be sent in to Treasurer in February.
$10.00 was sent to Bobby Nofflett in Viet Nam for Xmas. $100.00 voted to help defray expenses for Pres. Of County Council to Michighan [sic] for the meeting of Association Country Women of the World. These two items voted on by the club members by mail.
Tri-County meeting will be held at Civic Center, Salisbury, Md. Wicomico County will be the hostess.
Asked that the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag be said at all meetings.
There will be a workshop on Pattern Alterations Feb. 15th at Co. Serv. Bldg. from 10 AM – 2:30 P,M,
Limited attendance. So call in your name.
Mrs. Canny gave us a New Year’s Resolution which gives the best of results. Resolve to visit the sick and aged shutins. Thereby starting a trend of helping each other, which keeps on and on.
Moved and seconded we sponcer classes on defensive driving this year. Mrs, Dittmar Mrs. Wetsell, Mrs. Bull to make arrangements for classes.
The Christmas Party xxx Retarded Children was well attended and all reported a lovely time. It was sponsored by the Friendship Homemaker Club.
Mrs. Dittmar will be responsible for the Devotions for the next meeting.
Mrs. Huber, State Pres. of Council Ex. Board told our Council Pres. Mrs. Marshall, that our Fall Meeting was one of the best she had attended. She was especially interested in the Club and 4H exhibits. Which brought up the topic of having more exhibits at our Fall 1968 Meeting.

Worcester County Council of Homemakers Extension Clubs met May 9th, 1968 at 1:30 P.M. at County Extension Service Building.
-Only Five clubs represented.
Metting opened by our President Mrs. Marshall.
Mrs. Virginia Gordy’s donations program which centered around Mother was most inspiring.
Homemakers creed said in unison.
In the absence of our Secretary Mrs. Lewis the minutes of Mar. 14th meeting were read by Mrs. Dot Pettit and accepted.
Treasurer reported a balance on hand of $580.83.
Mrs. Marshall reported on the meeting she attended in Dorchester County.
Also the Spring meeting in Annapolis she reported was very nice, even if they were floored by the prices.
Mrs. Marshall urged it was most important that each club be represented at all our workshops.
The frozen food workshop announced for May 14th 10:00 A.M = 2:30 P.M.
Mrs. Blank reported for nominating committee names of Mrs. Preston Marshall for President and Mrs. Dot Pettit, Treasurer each club has (word misspelled and crossed out) privilege of nominating someone if they choose. names to be submitted at next Co. Council meeting and noted on.
Mrs. Mahel (???) Hudson gave a complete report telling what Short Course would have to offer each lady attending this year.
The Theme being Todays Decisions – Tomorrows World. This was followed by a discussion on the Homemakers to be sent to the Short Course by the County Council. Mr. Schultz was present and drew the name of Mrs. Edith Adkins, Berlin, MD.
Old Business1:
County Picnic discussed. decided we invite Sumerset Co. to be our guest. Each member to bring a covered dish. Worcester County to furnish the beverage. Picnic to be at Milbourne Landing Aug. 15th 1:30 P. M.
New Business:
In the absence of Mrs. Bull, Mrs. Shultz showed the landscaping plan for County Service Building. These plans have been done for sometime, as yet nothing has been done.
A Committee is to go before County Commissioners to ask for some help (crossed out word) with this project.
Mrs. Dittmar reported the defensive drivers class was a success.
Bicycle Safety program mentioned – Cooperation from County Homemakers urged.
Last but not least Mrs. Marshall stressed the importance of the coming election for or against the coming election for or against the new constitution, she urged each of us to study and think, about how we are going to vote.
Also mentioned, civil defense and culture arts. Our President would like to see something done along these lines next year.

Worcester County Council of Homemaker’s Extension Club met Sept. 12th, 1968 at 1:30 P.M. at the County Extension Bldg.
The meeting was opened by Mrs. Rose Canny acting for President Mrs. Preston Marshall and V. Pres. Mrs. John Gordy, Sr. both whom were absent. Mrs. Canny opened by reading the words of a song entitled “Song of Peace”.
Mrs. Bernard Kenlon (???) gave the devotions, Her theme was “Love is the only thing that builds for eternity”. She gave a beautiful prayer ending with “The Lord’s Prayer” in unison.
Sec. minutes read. One correction. Approved by Council vote.
Treasurer’s report read. Disbursements $214.93. Bal. on hand $372.60. Report accepted by Council.
Two Club Presidents and three representatives of Club Presidents answered Roll Call.
Under old business the names for Pres. and Treasurer for 1969 6 7 0 were accepted. There were no nominations from floor. Moved and seconded nominations be closed. Moved and seconded Mrs. Preston Marshall for President and Mrs. Dot Pettit for Treasurer for Co. Council for 1969-1971.
The County Picnic in August was reported by all as very pleasant. A good time was had by all. A suggestion was made that a request be made of the Milburn Landing Official (cross through) as to no mowing of grass be done while picnic being held in future years. It was very annoying. A discussion of the best time in P. M. for Picnic be decided by Council before next Picnic.
Committee to contact County Commissioners was delayed but will be done in near future.
Under New business. The Program Planning for 1969 will be Oct. 15th at 1:30 P. M. at Co. Service Bldg.
The Christmas Workshop will be held Nov. 14th. Place to be announced later.
“At Home Today” – WBOC-TV will be aired once a month starting in October. Date and time be announced later.
Fall Meeting for Worcester Co. will be held in Berlin, Md. Oct. 23rd.
In closing Mrs. Canny reminds us of not being afraid of getting involved in todays problems. We must get involved as it is the problem of each woman as well as our Civic Leaders.
