AFS conference is held at PHS
Pocomoke High School was the setting for the annual Fall Conference of AFS International Saturday, October 5. Pocomoke's Chapter President, Terry Sommers and Faculty Advisor, Jerry Shumate were responsible for the hospitality and supervision of the event which included about 100 AFS participants from all over the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Conference was directed by Area Representatives Ann Glovier, Heleen Van Overeem, from Pocomoke and Gloria Richards from Ocean Pines. Former AFS representative Joanne Mason, Newark was one of the conference planners.
The Banner for most attendance went to Cambridge-South Dorchester High, who beat out Pocomoke with four more students attending. Next year's conference will be held in Cambridge.
Group Leaders for the conference sessions were: Ann Glovier; AFS Students, Albert Van Overeem, Liz Richards and Wynell Cooper: Host Siblings, Jerry Shumate: AFS Club members, Kathy Serman; Candidates to go abroad, Carey and Judy Reece; Chapter Officers, and Pat Cooper, Richard Bolen and Linda Holland with the Host Parent Group.
Schools represented were: Pocomoke High, Snow Hill High, Stephen Decatur High, Cambridge-South Dorchester and Wicomico Senior High. Easton High has an AFS student who was unable to be present.
