Description

43.01 Knife: Blade of strongly curved scimitar shape, the rounded point and rear of the back ornamentally cusped and notched; short baluster-shaped bolster. 43.02 Fork: Head of silver, with four slender, slightly curved tines on a slender, straight neck of flattened hexagonal section with a baluster moulding where it joins the handle. 43.03 Spoon: Head with oval bowl, and neck - en suite - with that of the fork. Handles: Boxwood, slightly tapering, with silver panels engraved with lines; each carved with a pair of classical figures in the round, backed by a large acanthus leaf: On the knife, Neptune with a Dolphin at his feet, and a naked Goddess; On the fork, Hercules striking at a man (Cacus ?) on the ground, with his club; On the spoon, two half-naked females holding respectively, a sheaf of corn and a bunch of flowers (probably Persephone and Demeter, or could be Ceres and Flora).
