Description

51.01 and 51.02. Knives: Blades with almost parallel edge and back, and leaf-shaped points, integral with long, slender bolsters which have two rounded and two narrow flat sides. Handles continue this form, and are in sections of amber over foil, and iron; the caps have rounded ends, slightly projecting at the sides: the ferrous parts are decorated with damascening in gold and silver; the gold forms arabesque patterns within silver borders. 51.03. Case: A sheath with twin compartments, in contemporary tapestry woven with floral design in silk, cotton and silver thread.

Company Connection: Williamson's mark was registered in 1607; However, the bunch of grapes was used as a mark by several craftsmen at the time (vide Cutlers' Company Minutes for efforts to restrict its use). Therefore positive identification of the maker is impossible. Williamson was apprenticed in 1590 and became a freeman before 1603.
