Blade straight-sided with a swaged upper edge. It unscrews from the silver ferule of the flaring handle, and can be inverted to be screwed inside it. The handle is circular in section with a rounded moulding below the globular end which unscrews to reveal an ink pot. It is of ivory with the bleached remains of a brightly painted pattern of scrolling flowers and leaves and animals such as stags, rabbits and dogs. This decoration could have been stencilled and looks Eastern in origin, though the motifs look European. The flattened end of the ink-pot is turned with a rosette.Collection
