207.01 and 207.02 Knives: Blades single edged, with almost parallel edge and back, with leaf-shaped point, narrow, slightly tapering bolster of oval section.
Handles formed of wooden scales rivetted to the tang, inlaid with brass wire of a design in scrolls and mullets. The upper part of the handles have been shaped to take a deep, slightly tapering silver cap, cut off straight at the top, which partly covers the decoration on the scales. Each cap is engraved with a slightly variant design of hatched arabesque foliage and, on top, an owner's initials M M over a merchant mark, probably at a later date.
207.03 Case: Wood covered with shagreen, mouth and centre lockets of silver cast with openwork foliated scroll-work panels at front and rear: on the former a pelican in her piety and on the latter, a phoenix. Two rings, one on either side of the mouth of the case are attached to 2 silver suspension chains. These are in turn attached at the top to a slender, flat belt-hook, engraved on the front with a spray of hatched foliage.Collection
