Handles (of knife and fork): Iron, both of flat pistol-grip form, widening at the top where they are cut to a cusped beak shape, and tapering to the front where they are flattened and slotted to receive the heads, the end of the pivot on each side being framed in a punched rosette; slightly convex scales divided into panels of gilt, silver and blue, variously counterfeit-damascened in gold and silver, and engraved, with scroll-work and conventional flowers; the back springs slightly decorated with chamfering and incised lines. 213.03 Spoon: Egg-shaped rat-tail bowl in silver, on a short neck hinged to a flat iron trifid handle decorated en suite with the other handles: a sliding silver collar chased with lines and a little conventional foliage serves to lock the two parts in the open position. 213.04 Case: Hardened leather, shaped and made in two halves, the body divided into shaped compartments to take the implements; the rims of both parts are painted red, and the exterior is decorated with two raised mouldings, that on the body serving as a stop for the lid, and stamped with close-set longitudinal bands of conventional foliage.
