629.01 Knife of steel with steel bolster ornamented with elaborate facetting and filed decoration. Handle of wood covered with black leather with, at the top, narrow strips of green leather laced through to produce a checkered pattern between two continuous bands of green leather. There is a further band of green leather at the top edge. Towards the blade the handle is wrapped with plaited red leather. The edges of this blade have been sharpened (cf. CC 630 to 640)
629.02 Sheath of red leather on a card core. The main part of the sheath has two raised edges dyed black. There is a terminal feature with blind stamping and black staining. At the top, open end, there is a raised band dyed black with blind stamping. Below this the sheath has been bound with a thin strip of red leather to which a sort of loop is attached by four long thin leather strings. The 'loop' is decorated with strips of leather.Collection
