323.01 to 323.05 Long Knives (4): Blades single-edged, and slightly tapering. 323.05 is missing. Also noted as missing in audit of October 1998.
323.06 to 323.10 Forks (5): Heads with three curved tines and long baluster necks. Handles of green-stained bone, slightly tapering and of flattened oval section, fitted with silver ferrules and caps, the latter domed, and both with simple raised mouldings.
323.11 to 323.15 Short Knives (5): Blades single-edged, and slightly tapering. One of the four small knives has a maker’s mark, being Greer of Ludgate Street. Possibly same as Master in 1812?
323.16 to 323.20 Short forks (5): Forks: Heads with three curved tines and long baluster necks. Handles of green-stained bone, slightly tapering and of flattened oval section, fitted with silver ferrules and caps, the latter domed, and both with simple raised mouldings.
Nine of the above items (5 small forks and 4 small knives) have been reassigned from 324.01 to 324.09, on 09/01/26, as it is clear tha the items should be consolidated into the same collection. 324 will be demised.
There are two other items (one large knife and one large fork) that are in Display Cabinet “The Development of Cutlery from the 17th century to the present”. Item 5 in bottom half of cabinet, and referenced to 324 (the demised number whose items have been consolidated to 323).Collection
