Description

US Army Air Force officer's "crush cap." Size 7 1/2. U.S. coat of arms officer crest at front. Sold by Charles M. Floyd Co. 934 Elm St. Manchester NH. The "crush cap" or "50 mission crush" became a common sight among WWII flight crews, who removed the stiffening ring from their caps to better accomodate the use of headsets. Particularly worn "crush caps" were said to have the "50 mission crush" look, indicating the wearer had accrued significant experience in combat flight operations.
