Description

Photograph, official U.S. Navy. An actual, original official photograph, with blue print on the back, The subject is the iconic Sea Bee in HBT coveralls, M1 Carbine and dixie cup. Dated 20 April 43. The back reads ""A member of a Navy Seabees (sic) arrives at a distant Southwest Pacific Base, ready to work and fight. The Seabees are composed of bluejackets and officers who construct camps and bases at advanced points. Their job is to move into a desert island and transform it onto a base for fighting men. They construct barracks, airfields, docks, gun emplacements, and anything else that is necessary. They are experienced in all kinds of construction and repair, and in addition every man is an armed member of the Navy. They are trained in the handling of all weapons of modern land warfare and are always to drop a shovel and use a rifle if the need arises."
