Description

Baseball card: "Ted Williams / 1944 - Williams Wins His Wings". Color printed on heavy cardstock. Shows photographic image (with added color) of Williams in his Navy uniform. On reverse: "#23" "BASEBALL'S GREATEST / Ted Williams". "Slugger Ted Williams received his Wings in May 1944, graduated from flying school as a Second Lieutenant and transferred to the Marine Corps. He did so well in flying school that the Marines kept him at Pensacola as a pilot instructor for more than a year. Ted participated in a goodly number of service baseball games during his "hitch" in the Marines." Maker's mark in red at side: "F.E. Fleer". This is part of a series of Fleer baseball cards produced in 1959.
