2016.028.017Description
Insignia, U.S., honorable discharge. The honorable discharge emblem in gold on a brown backing. Lozenge shape. Appears unused.Context
Colloquially known as the "ruptured duck" due to the messy design, this insignia represented a service member who had received honorable discharge between 1925-1946. The lozenge patch version specifically was authorized in 1944. It was sown on the right breast of a dress uniform and enabled the uniform to be worn for 90 days after discharge. It also assisted transportation companies in recognizing returning veterans who were eligible for free rail, bus or vehicle transportation services.Update Date
