A booklet for collecting war savings stamps. The front cover features an eagle with a shield, on which the text reads: "My Victory Book for the purchase of United States War Savings Bonds." Behind this shield are images of various warplanes, tanks and artillery, and warships. The booklet unfolds three times to reveal a full 8-paneled sheet. Numerous stamps have been affixed to the inside of the booklet.

Context

War bonds were used during WWII to help the federal government raise funds for the war effort. The voluntary bond system helped generate this capital without the government needing to substantially raise taxes. Bonds also helped limit inflation. Because Americans were not able to purchase as many consumer goods due to rationing and shortages, many had extra spending money during the war. The purchase of bonds, effectively stashing some of that extra money out of circulation, helped curb inflation. By appealing to people's patriotism, war bond drives also helped create a sense of national unity. With the purchase of war bonds and stamps, the average civilian could play an important part in the war effort even if they could not serve overseas.
