Description

Pair of dog tags, each attached to a piece of twine. "CLAYTON E. HALE / 0-430807 T41 / S. MAIN ST. / WOLFEBORO, NH" and letters "A" and "P" at right. Notch in edge of dog tag at upper left.

Context

Clayton Hale was a native of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire and graduate of Brewster Academy. He tragically became the first Wolfeboro resident killed in World War II after his plane was shot down while flying the "Hump" over the Himalayas in the China-Burma-India Theater of the war.
