Winchester .45/60 Model 1876 Rifle. Text in front of rear sight: "Winchester's Repeating Arms. New Haven, CT. King's Improvement -Patented March 29, 1956. October 16, 1860."
Text in back of rear sight: "Cal .45 - 60".
Text on tang: Model, 1876.
Text on bottom of ejection weight: 45- 60.
Wood on forestock and buttstock shows signs of wear, minimal. Wear and small rust deposits on hammer, lever, and side plates. All moveable parts in working condition; safety latch, and rear sight in working condition. Rifle in full working condition.
John Sindelar collection, of John Dover collection: Dover came to Yellowstone River region in September, 1881 to hunt buffalo. Sold animal hides near Benson's Landing (close to Livingston) and settled a few miles northeast of Billings at "Dover's Island". Only surviving child of John and Mary Dover. The Sindelar family recently donated 68 acres of Five Mile Creek drainage to the Yellowstone River Park Association.Acquisition
