2022-1005-001Description
A Winchester Model 1866 Musket-pattern rifle; the rifle has a distinctive brass receiver and features an elongated barrel and forestock; the forestock has two bands that bind it to the barrel; there are no markings or inscriptions on the receiver, the barrel, or the upper and lower tang; on the brass buttplate there is an inscription "17 - - 0" which only has a few visible numbers, but could indicate the rifle was in the 17,000 serial number range; the rifle is chambered for center-fire, which is unique as most Model 1866 were designed for rim-fire cartridges, with the Model 1873 being the first Winchester that was center-fire standard.Acquisition
