Description

A Number 4 Nut manufactured by Charlie Porter

Use

Designed to fit into narrow, tapered rock cracks, locking securely when weighted

Context

Charlie Porter was a prolific climber in the 1970s. He also manufactured his own nuts in a small stone building in Briceburg, just down the highway between Midpines and Yosemite. This nut was similar to Chouinard Equipment's hexes, though it is symmetrical with curved edges. The blue tape was used as a marker to identify the owner. Engraved with PE and the number four.
