Charlie Porter Nut #3Entry/Object ID
2026.1.70Description
Unique Number 4 nut made by Charlie PorterUse
Passive climbing protection devices that work by wedging a tapered metal block into a constricting, narrow crack in the rock secured by the force of a person's weight.Context
Made out of Aluminum I-Beam Stock, this Porter nut had multiple holes for versatility. Specific holes were for cord, because the edges were bevelled. This meant that when the device was weighted, the cord was not rubbing up against a sharp edge, potentially cutting into it. Other holes were meant to lighten the weight of the nut overall, however it is still heavier than most equipment.Collection
