Chouinard 1971 Hex

Entry/Object ID

Description

A 1971 Number 8 Hex manufactured by Chouinard Equipment

Use

Designed to fit into narrow, tapered rock cracks, locking securely when weighted

Context

This is in the museum's interactive display. This is the first version of the Number 8 Hex that Chouinard Equipment manufactured. The reason we can date it, is that it is a symmetrical design. In later years, the hex would be produced with an asymmetrical design, allowing it to be utilized for more crack widths. It has a longer sling attached to be able to wear over your head and shoulder. Donated by Roger Breedlove in 1994.
