Description

An asymmetrical number 8 hex manufactured by Chouinard Equipment

Designed to fit into narrow, tapered rock cracks, locking securely when weighted

Context

This is a second edition of a Number 8 hex, produced and sold in 1972. They modified the symmetrical first edition that was produced in 1971, so that the asymmetrical design could fit in a wider variety of cracks. Hexes and stoppers were the "workhorse" of the early 1970s climbing hardware.
