Context

This piton was used while climbing and even has the tip broken off. Dolt was the best equipment maker at the time, and even had patents for his designs. The eye of his pitons is patented and allows for two carabiners to fit through. Interestingly, manufacturers at the time would usually only inscribe an initial, but Dolt inscribed his name and sometimes USA on the opposite side. Dolt was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced and was a machinist for Mcdonnell-Douglas, creating his pitons on nights and weekends.
