A Forrest Mountaineering manufactured nutUse
a T-shaped, climbing nutContext
This is a nut manufactured by Forrest Mountaineering. The company operated from 1973 to 1985. They came in a variety of sizes numbered one through seventeen. This is a number seven. It has anodized green paint on the nut, which helped color code the different sizes. It was helpful to also mark your own equipment with paint, as climbers would usually combine racks, causing confusion if they weren't marked.Collection

Caption in the museum is: "The clean climbing movement of the 1970’s spurred many hammer-less climbing gear options. Some worked pretty well in Yosemite cracks, others not so much, potentially putting the climber at risk. The generic term for hammer-less gear is Nuts."Create Date
