To manufacture pitons faster

Context

An early manufacturing experiment by Tom Frost and Yvon Chouinard for Chouinard Equipment. They would cast pitons in a mold and then grind away the excess material around the piton. It was more efficient than hand-forging each individual piton, which was necessary since the climbing industry was growing.
