2026.1.64Description
An original stopper made by MOAC donated by Tom FrostUse
Passive climbing protection devices that work by wedging a tapered metal block into a constricting, narrow crack in the rock secured by the force of a person's weight.Context
This is a stopper made by MOAC from Tom Frost's personal gear. MOAC was the company first credited with the successful design of the stopper. Tom Frost and Yvon Chouinard imitated the design for the Chouinard Equipment stopper that became so popular. The Chouinard Equipment design was a little less tapered, which made them more difficult to pull out of the crack. Tom Frost later replicated this tapered MOAC design for his company Frostworks.Collection

Caption in the museum is: "A MOAC nut on purple Perlon. Of all the British nuts, Moac’s
worked the best in Yosemite cracks. Tom Frost realized this and along with Yvon Chouinard came out with the Stopper which closely resembles the MOAC nut with some slight angle modifications."Create Date
