Stockholm: Tryct I Kongl. Tryckeriet, 1785. Considered the 1st ed. 48pp. The Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between His Majesty the King of Sweden and the United States of North America, Concluded at Paris on April 3, Ratified at Stockholm on May 23, 1783, and at the United States Congress of America on July 29 the Same Year. One of the first treaties after the American Revolutionary War instituted amongst France, Sweden, and the United States by Benjamin Franklin. During the American Revolution, Franklin was in Paris strengthening foreign relations when Swedish diplomats approached him in secret to design this treaty. The basis, which mirrored France’s treaty, acknowledged the sovereignty of the United States of America. After the war, the treaty was signed by both Sweden and the United States in Paris on April 3, 1783. This is an important diplomatic accomplishment for the newly established United States of America drafted in part by Benjamin Franklin. OCLC locates 3 copies published in 1783 but are very rare to the trade.
