"Anthony Benezet, the well known Quaker schoolmaster in Philadelphia, assembled the collection during the spring of 1760 in a lot of 500 copies for distribution to those of a religious disposition `in ye back Parts of Maryland, Virginia & N. Carolina . and Connecticut'" (Miller 730). Gift inscription at the head of title-page: Anth'y Benezet to Joseph White." Anthony Benezet was a Philadelphia abolitionist and educator. White was a Quaker minister in Makefield, Bucks County. With the ownership signature of noted Chicago lawyer Frank J. Loesch.
