"This confession, approved by the Baptist Congregations meeting in Philadelphia, Sept. 25, 1742, had first been set forth about 1643 in the name of Seven Congregations in London... and was reaffirmed by upwards of one hundred congregations in London and Wales at London, Sept. 3-11, 1689, which authorized John Marshall at the Bible in Grace-Church-Street to print and sell a new edition. At the same Philadelphia meeting in 1742 the Association approved the idea of having a treatise of church discipline written and published. The task assigned to Jenkins Jones and Benjamin Griffith, minister of the Perkasie (Pa.) Baptist Church, eventually fell to Griffith, who acknowledged in the preface his indebtedness to a tract by Elias Keach, a manuscript left by Griffith's half-brother, the late Abel Morgan, and Thomas Goodwin (1600-1680)."- Miller
