Description

Bronze medal has left profile bust of Henry Clay on front. Around inside perimeter on front is a wreath of leaves. Just inside wreath at bottom in fine print: "T.D. JONES. DEL. -- C.C. WRIGHT. FECIT." [You must examine the T.D. Jones closely -- a slight imperfection makes it look like D.D. Jones.] Back side of medal has a list of Clay's political achievements inside a wreath of wheat, corn, cotton, tobacco, rice and hemp, the six chief American staples, "SENATE / 1806 / SPEAKER 1811. / WAR OF 1812 WITH G. BRITAIN / GHENT 1814. / SPANISH AMERICA 1818-1822. / MISSOURI COMPROMISE 1821. / AMERICAN SYSTEM 1824. / GREECE 1824 / SECRETARY OF STATE 1825. / PANAMA INSTRUCTIONS 1826 / TARIFF COMPROMISE / 1833. / PUBLIC DOMAIN 1833-1841. / PEACE WITH FRANCE / PRESERVED 1835. / COMPROMISE 1850." At bottom in fine print just around inside perimeter, "WM. WALCUTT. DEL. -- C.C. WRIGHT. FECIT." Medal is presented in its original case, a square, black case lined with maroon velvet. Case top is separated from bottom. One of the two original clasps is still on case.
