Description

Maroon housecoat with gold, brown, yellow, gray, etc. embroidered leaves and vines around down front and around bottom, and ends of long sleeves, also on shawl collar. Maroon satin quilted lining. Two hip pockets and one breast pocket. Inside hang coat tag. Three back belt loops, front opening, no buttons, shawl collar. Originally, this coat was said to be from 1835, but construction methods do not support this. Coat is machine sewn with interlock stitch. Probably makes this garment newer than 1846, when the first interlock machine was developed.
