Medal in form of Maltese Cross hanging from loop attached to striped red/white/blue ribbon with metal clasp at top. Ribbon has narrow blue, white stripe at outer edge with broad red stripe in center. Yellow metal loop has number "3061" engraved on it on back side. Medal is yellow, four double points of cross enamelled with blue on outer edge and white inside (same as reverse). Center ( on front) enamelled in red with inset gold eagle holding olive branch and arrows. Around edge in gold banding: " LEX REGIT ARMA TUENTUR" (on back). Center shows crossed swords resting on branches, enamelled in red inset. Around edge in gold banding. Writing around "M.O. LOYAL LEGION. U.S. -- MDCCCLXV [1865]"Dimensions
