Description

Set of five surgical instruments contained in a brown, alligator skin case. The case has four flaps which fold neatly into a rectanguar case. On the outermost flap is a silver plaque with the following inscribed: "Presented to / T.S. BULLOCK, M.D. / House Surgeon & Physician / to Charity & Maternity Hospitals, / by the Comm[issioners]. of Pub[lic]. Char[ities] & Corr[ections]. / H.H. PORTER, JACOB HESS, T.S. BRENNAN / April 2d, 1885." Inside bottom flap is an oval manufacturer's label embossed in gold: "G. TIEMANN & CO./ MANUFACTURERS / OF / SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS / 67 CHATHAM ST. N.Y." The case is lined with maroon velvet and silk. There are 6 leather loops to hold instruments with slots beneath to hold six more, and a pouch that contains a hypodermic needle and stitching thread.
