Description

Shallow, rectangular box covered with colored paper. Edges of box are decorated with gold and blue links. Box is identified in several places as "HENRY CLAY -- HABANA 2000 - SOUVENIR" cigars. Top of lid has a colorful street scene depicting a Henry Clay cigar factory. Across top of scene is a banner with: "HENRY CLAY -- FABRICA de TABACOS." Bottom of scene has several sections of text, starting at left: "MIEMBRO DE LA ACADEMIA NACIONAL DE AGRICULTURA / Industria y Comercio de Paris," middle section, "CALZADA DEL LUYANO No. 1000 / DEPOSITO O-REILLY No. 911 / DOMINICAN REPUBLIC," right section, "PREMIADO CON LA CRUZ DE LA LEGION DE HONOR / en la Exposicion de 1878." Wrapped around the right side of the box is an interesting blue and white stamp that looks much older than the box. Printed on it: "HENRY CLAY / FABRIC DE TOBACOS / DE JULIAN ALVAREZ / ROSADO / DE SAN NICOLAS / Su deposito del Obispo 7 -- Frente a la Plaza de Armas / LONDON 1862 -- INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION 1862." Wrapped around front of box is a colorful pink and red oval stamp. Inside top of lid has the same street and factory scene with a warning that the product contains harmful agents. Stamped on bottom of box in black ink: "TABACALERA DE GARCIA / 20 CIGARS / HAND MADE IN LA ROMANA / DOMINICAN REPUBLIC."
