Description

Black and white image of Henry Clay and his wife Lucretia. Clay is shown later in life, seated, wearing a dark coat, vest, pants and tie holding a cane in his right hand, his left hand resting in his lap, his head tilted slightly to his right. Lucretia is shown seated, wearing a dark dress with white, ruffled collar and a white bonnet. The image is adhered to a card with a red border. Below the image is printed text: "HENRY CLAY AND WIFE. / Entered according to Act of Congress in the / year 1861, by E. Anthony, in the Clerk's office of the District Court of the U.S. for the So. District of New York." On the back of the card, partially obscured, is a printed image of a building with text above: "Published by / E. ANTHONY / 501 Broadway, N.Y." and "Manufacturer of Photographic Albums." At bottom in fine print: "Snyder, Black & Sturn [or Stum], NY." Other markings of unknown origin are on back of card.
