Description

A lever action model 1886 Winchester Arms repeating rifle. The gun has a 45-70 caliber octagonal 26" barrel with magazine tube underneath. The stock and body are wooden. The receiver, lever, trigger, and hammer are blued. The barrel and magazine are finished in black. There is a sight at the end of the barrel and a flip-up adjustable sight on the barrel in front of the receiver. The barrel is stamped: "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven. Conn. U.S.A." The barrel is marked "45-70" on the top where it connects to the receiver. The gun is marked under the lever on the metal tab on the stock: "Pat. Oct. 14. 1884. Jan. 20. 1885." The serial number is stamped just to the rear of this location and is 46725. On top of the stock on the metal strip is marked: "Model 1886." The stock has the initials "H.C.McD." carved on the grip.
