Description

This is a bandanna used for the Henry Clay Presidential campaign of 1844. It has a portrait of Henry Clay in the center with the words Tarriff, Clay, Union from left to right around him. The name of his running mate Frelinghuysen near the bottom of the bandanna. Directly under the portrait of Henry Clay is a banner with the words "Harry of the West". There are also four pictures in each corner. The upper left picture has a sailor and a farmer with the words "Agriculture and Commerce", the upper right picture is an eagle with the words "Union and Our Country". The lower right picture has a racoon thumbing his nose and pushing a ball that says "Rolling in to Clear the Way" while holding a stick that says "Constitution". The lower left picture has a factory scene with the words "Tariff" and "Home League".
