Description

Engraving of Charles Bird King painting of Henry Clay holding a copy of his resolution supporting the Spanish provinces of South America in their bid for independence. Print shows Clay seated at a table with resolution unfurled in one hand and with the other hand at the bottom of the resolution. Next to Clay's lower hand is a fancy inkwell and quill. Just beneath the image are three credits: "Painted by Charles King", "Washington City: Published by Benjamin O. Tyler, 1822", and "Engraved by Peter Maverick." Beneath the credits is a Spanish translation of the resolution Clay is holding. Beneath the translation is the Title "Henry Clay" and the honorific, "Late Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. The advocated of South American Independence" in English and Spanish. At the very bottom is "Copyright secured according to act of Congress." Print is framed in original wood frame with brass ring for hanging at top.
