This item is a framed assemblage including a certificate of membership in the American Colonization Society and an engraving of Henry Clay mounted under a mat in a modern frame. The certificate reads, "Office of the Colonization Society Washington This certifies that ____________________ is a member for life of the American Colonization Society." Beneath the text is the seal of the ACS with a palm frond on the left and a rubber plant on the right. In the lower left corner is the signature W. McLain and in the right is the signature H. Clay. At the very bottom in the center is printed Henry Stone del. et sculpt. The engraving shows Henry Clay seated in a chair at a table on which are piled books and an inkwell. His legs are crossed, and his right arm hangs across the back splat of the chair. His left arm rests on the table. Clay is wearing a long black coat, a white shirt, a black cravat, black pants, and black shoes. The frame is a modern frame with a gilt outer edge, black painted middle, and gilt inner edge.Dimensions
