This colorized photo postcard features an early 20th-century United States Army Field Hospital scene with two soldiers, tending to a wounded comrade on a stretcher by a dirt road. In the background, an early motorized field hospital ambulance marked with a Red Cross emblem. The driver, also in uniform, sits at the front, preparing to transport the injured. Surrounding the scene are several army tents pitched among trees, evoking a temporary military encampment.Collection

[descriptive text]
This type of field hospital has been doing splendid work on the great European conflict. It brings immediate surgical attention to the men who are too badly wounded to permit of their being moved to the base hospitals and first aid to many others which relieves their rough shaking up they in the crowded ambulances on their way to the rear. Note the study construction throughout and the gigantic red cross on its side which secures for it immunity from attack.
