BARRELL ABOUT THE AUTHOR Donald Melville Barrell is a legend in his own time. This gifted storyteller was born in 1883 and is now 92 years old. Don's ability to tell a story seems to have been inherited from his grandmother, Mrs. E. B. Hornby, who in 1898 wrote, "Under Old Rooftrees", the only history of the small community of Warwick, New York. Mrs. Hornby's work has become a priceless collector's item over the years. Don's interest in the Township of Chester, N. Y., has spanned nearly a century and it was Don who founded and became the first president of the Chester Historical Society. Always interested in the community and in the establishment of truly protective fire districts, Don was honored in 1969 by having the Fireman's Park in Chester Village named after him. Mr. Barrell's middle name is derived from the families friendship with the noted American Novelist, Herman Melville. Jacket by Ed McLaughlin Printed by The Service Press
