Description

Plaster cast of a Roman copy of an original 440 BCE Greek sculpture of Diomedes. The Roman copy is in Glyptothek Museum in Munich, Germany. Formidable in battle on land and sea, Diomedes was celebrated as a hero of the Trojan war. In Homer's Illiad, Diomedes ranks with Ajax and Achilles as among the greatest Greek warriors. Later, he became King of Argos and is said to have founded ten Italian cities.
