A view of The Elms on January 19th 1941, the day before its demolishing. The Elms inn was built circa 1780 and housed Miss Graham's Seminary for Young Ladies (1833-1840), William Benson Sherwood School (1840-1849), and Mr. Peck's School (1860s), after which it became a boarding house ran by Edward Lyon Holley known as "The Elms" with additional cottages in the back. The building was torn down in 1941.Collection
