A view of the Great Captain Island's lighthouse's front face, facing west. The Great Captain Island's current lighthouse was built in 1868, replacing an earlier 1829 structure, and was in use until 1970 when it was replaced by a skeletal tower lighthouse built next to it. The structure is made from granite with a cast iron lantern tower; the structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and was major refurbished in the early 2000's.Collection
